As I settled into another episode of the Fellowship In Essential Oils podcast, I found myself missing the familiar voice of Adam, but I was equally excited to hear from Frances Bartlett as she discussed the intriguing Mastic essential oil. This lesser-known gem, derived from the Pistacia lentiscus tree, quickly drew me in with its rich history and remarkable properties. Listening to Frances weaving together her passion for music and aromatherapy, I couldn’t help but envision the vibrant healing arts center where she shares her craft—and the wistful thought of being “across the pond” to experience it all firsthand filled me with a sense of longing.

Opening my own bottle of Mastic, I was welcomed by a powerful aroma that enveloped my senses. Its strong, smoky, and earthy scent instantly transported me to a serene forest, igniting my imagination about how this unique oil would blend with others in my collection. I found myself pondering the idea of using fewer drops due to its strong aroma, yet at the same time, I recognized its ability to stand alone as a base note with multiple layers of complexity. This duality is what makes essential oils so fascinating; they can be both versatile and singularly impactful.

Frances and Liz shared insights about Mastic’s spiritual history, describing its role in purification and protection. The thought of this resin being used in sacred spaces resonated deeply with me, as I reflected on how it connects us to something greater than ourselves. It reminded me of how essential oils can serve as conduits to our inner selves, allowing us to explore deeper states of mindfulness and presence. Even though I haven’t been meditating lately, listening to their discussion ignited a spark of curiosity within me about revisiting that practice, perhaps guided by the essence of Mastic.

As they delved into the oil's physical properties, Liz’s description of how Mastic can make “your lungs happy” brought a smile to my face. What a delightful visualization! I could almost imagine inhaling its aromatic notes, feeling the warmth spread through my chest, and sensing the oil's healing qualities working their magic. The conversation around its benefits for pain relief and inflammation was particularly relevant to my own wellness journey, as I seek natural alternatives to support my body.

Inspired by this podcast, I felt a renewed sense of purpose in revisiting my collection of essential oils. Mastic, with its unique profile, sparked thoughts about the potential it holds for my own blends. It made me consider how I could incorporate it into my self-care rituals, or even add a visit to a forest filled with Mastic trees to my bucket list—an experience that feels like it could deepen my appreciation for this extraordinary oil.

In the end, this episode was a beautiful reminder of the power of essential oils to connect us not only to nature but also to ourselves. Mastic essential oil may not be as widely known, but its potential to enhance our well-being is undeniable. As I reflect on the insights shared in this episode, I’m excited to experiment with this oil and see where it takes me on my aromatic journey.

Until next time! Happy Blending, Jeanne aka JAK
