Now on a side note, living in Minnesota, especially during the winter, does not always allow the ability to get out into nature to practice the ritual described in the Forest Bathing podcast so the question begs, what can essential oils do for me?
How to choose the right essential oils.
Some suggestions would be:
-
Pine: For that fresh, crisp smell of evergreens.
-
Cedarwood: For a deep, grounding, woodsy scent.
-
Siberian Fir or Douglas Fir: For a sweet, earthy, and refreshing forest vibe.
-
Spruce: Promotes a sense of calm and connection to nature.
-
Juniper Berry: Cleansing, grounding, and slightly fruity.
-
Frankincense: Adds a hint of spice and depth, promoting mindfulness.
These could even be combined together to create a unique forest scent.(For additional blends, see bottom of article)
How to deliver the essential oils
Some suggestions would be:
-
Diffuser: Adding drop(s) of your single essential oil or blend into a diffuser filled with water. Let it run while you meditate, relax, or simply sit in a quiet space.
-
Steam Inhalation: Fill a bowl with steaming water and add a few drops of essential oils. Drape a towel over your head, close your eyes, and inhale deeply to simulate being in a forest.
-
Essential Oil Sprays: Create a spray by adding your essential oil blend with the appropriate dilution products and ratios. Spritz it in your living space, especially near windows where natural light filters in.
-
Forest Bath in the Shower: Place a few drops of essential oils on the walls or floor of the shower before turning on the hot water. The steam will release the forest-like aromas, creating a natural and climbing atmosphere.
-
Forest Bath in the Bath: Mix your essential oil blend with a carrier oil (such as jojoba or sweet almond oil) and add it to your bathwater. This can create a relaxing and immersive forest bathing experience.
-
Personal Inhaler: Create a personal inhaler by adding the essential oil blend to a cotton wick and placing it inside an inhaler tube. Carry it with you to take a quick "forest bath" whenever you need a moment of calm.
-
Sauna or Steam Room (if accessible): Add a few drops to water and pour over hot stones
